Kerala student awarded Clarendon Scholarship for Anthropology at Oxford

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, May 1: Karthu Anil Chandran Geethambili, a student from Alappuzha district in Kerala, has been awarded the prestigious Clarendon Scholarship at the University of Oxford to pursue postgraduate research in Anthropology.


The Clarendon Scholarship, one of the most competitive funding programmes at Oxford, is awarded on the basis of academic excellence and research potential. The scholarship is fully funded, covering tuition fees and providing a substantial annual grant for living expenses. The total value of the award over the duration of the course is estimated at around ₹1.8 crore.


Ms. Geethambili’s academic interests lie in examining social inequalities and marginalised communities through anthropological research. She is expected to undertake advanced study and fieldwork as part of her programme, contributing to ongoing scholarly work in the discipline.


Speaking about her achievement, Ms. Geethambili said that consistent academic engagement and a strong reading habit played a crucial role in her journey. She emphasised the importance of critical thinking and mentorship in shaping her research interests and preparing her application.
