DMK reiterates call for abolition of NEET amid students’ protest

New Delhi: As students’ protests in the national capital drew nationwide attention, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Monday reiterated its demand for the abolition of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), describing it as the central issue behind the ongoing agitation.

In a statement, the party said it had been the first to caution that NEET was designed in a manner that enabled large-scale irregularities. It added that the DMK had opposed the examination since its introduction, consistently highlighting what it described as its adverse impact on students and on the principle of social justice.

The party said Tamil Nadu, which it described as a pioneer in safeguarding social justice and as having played a key role in paving the way for the First Constitutional Amendment, continued to maintain that the abolition of NEET remained its primary demand.

The DMK further said that the demand for scrapping NEET should be at the heart of the students’ protests, arguing that the abolition of the examination would provide a lasting solution to the issues surrounding medical admissions. The statement also carried the hashtags #AbolitionOfNEET, #BanNEET, and #SaveStudents.

The remarks come amid continuing protests by students in New Delhi over concerns related to the conduct of NEET and alleged irregularities associated with the examination.
