Banksy’s new London sculpture draws crowds, sparks debate
London: A new sculpture attributed to the anonymous street artist Banksy has appeared in central London, attracting onlookers and prompting discussion over its message.
Installed at Waterloo Place, the work shows a suited man holding a large flag that covers his face, leaving him unable to see ahead as he steps forward. The piece surfaced overnight earlier this week and carries the artist’s signature at its base.
A video shared on social media shows the installation being carried out under cover of darkness using heavy equipment.
Located near several historic statues in Westminster, the sculpture has been interpreted by observers as a commentary on nationalism and “blind patriotism,” themes often explored in Banksy’s work.
Local authorities have said the artwork will remain in place for now, with measures taken to protect it.
Banksy, who rose to prominence in the 1990s, is known for politically charged public artworks that frequently generate global attention.
