Annamalai submits resignation to BJP leadership
New Delhi/Chennai :
Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai on Tuesday submitted his resignation to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership during meetings with senior party functionaries in New Delhi, according to sources familiar with the development.
Mr. Annamalai met BJP national president Nitin Nabin and the party’s national general secretary (organisation), B. L. Santhosh, before holding discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The resignation comes amid continuing discussions within the BJP regarding its organisational strategy in Tamil Nadu. Sources indicated that Mr. Annamalai had conveyed his desire to pursue an independent political course and had submitted a detailed resignation letter to the party leadership.
Speculation regarding Mr. Annamalai’s future role has intensified in recent weeks following his replacement as the BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit chief and reported differences over the party’s alliance strategy in the State, particularly its ties with the AIADMK. Party sources have suggested that these issues contributed to his decision.
Reports have also indicated that Mr. Annamalai may consider launching a new political platform in Tamil Nadu. However, no official announcement has been made by him regarding any future political organisation.
The BJP has not issued an official statement on the resignation at the time of publication. The development is being closely watched in Tamil Nadu political circles, where Mr. Annamalai has emerged as one of the party’s prominent faces over the past several years.
