Padma Bhushan Honours Mammootty’s Five-Decade Legacy in Indian Cinema

New Delhi: Veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty has expressed gratitude after being conferred the Padma Bhushan, describing the honour as a humbling recognition of a cinematic journey spanning more than five decades.


In a statement shared with his fans and well-wishers, Mammootty thanked the Government of India for the prestigious civilian award and dedicated the recognition to audiences and the world of cinema that shaped his illustrious career.


“Deeply humbled and honoured to be conferred with the Padma Bhushan. My sincere gratitude to the Government of India for this prestigious recognition,” the actor said.


Reflecting on his long career, Mammootty noted that the honour was a reflection of a journey that would not have been possible without the unwavering support of moviegoers. “An honour like this is a reflection of a five-decade-long journey that wouldn’t exist without my incredible audience. Thank you for the endless love, trust and support that keeps me going every single day,” he said.


One of India’s most celebrated actors, Mammootty has appeared in more than 400 films across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi cinema. Over the years, he has earned widespread acclaim for his versatility, powerful performances and contribution to Indian filmmaking.

The actor dedicated the honour to the film fraternity and cinema lovers across the country. “I dedicate this to the beautiful world of cinema and all of you,” he said.


The Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, is conferred in recognition of distinguished service of a high order across various fields, including the arts.
